 Experience the methods we use to prepare a Nordic colour palette based on soil excavated in the Nordic landscapes. The work involves processing the site-specific materials, which at 1280 degrees leave nuanced differences in colours and surfaces in recycled glass and on porcelain. Our mineral glass visualises a study in glass and soil from Bornholm - showing a colour-scheme in glass specific to Bornholm. The soil's natural iron content, small stones and organic material give the glass its green nuances, textures, and hints the material composition of the glass.
2026 RECYCLING GLASS WITH LOCAL ROOTS LAG Bornholm provides support for machinery investments in local recycling of cider bottles, contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly production of crafts. The project specifically addresses the UN's Sustainable Development Goals: Goal 9: Sustainable Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production The project supports LAG's development strategy with a focus on job creation, particularly in focus area 2 (craftsmanship). It also promotes collaboration with other businesses, the advancement of circular economy principles, sustainable innovation, and new innovative production technologies in the field of Bornholm's craftsmanship, which further contributes to the green transition for the benefit of local businesses. Vi er Rick Gerner og Johanne Jahncke, vi arbejder med både glas og porcelæn, og vores kunsthåndværk- og design duo går under navnet Gerner & Jahncke. Vi arbejder på at skabe en nordisk farvepallet, der vidner om den mangfoldighed og diversitet, naturens materialer indeholder i form af nuancer og teksturer, ved at iblande jord opgravet forskellige steder i de nordiske lande. Vi finder inspiration i konsensus mellem de materialer, vi anvender, måden vi arbejder på, det vi producerer og den sammenhæng, det skal indgå i. Det handler i høj grad om sansning og det at være i berøring med noget oprindeligt. At finde de forskellige materialer, finde ud af hvordan de arbejder og at transformere det til noget andet end dets udgangspunkt. Vi arbejder med naturmaterialer og har både i forhold til glas og keramik en undersøgende tilgang til materialet.

BORNHOLM - ICELAND - JAPAN SOIL CONNECTIONS On Bornholm, in Iceland and Japan we collect over hundreds of samples across the islands. Our practice in glass and ceramics unearths our experimental processing of soil excavated in Japan, Iceland and on Bornholm. The soil is dug in various landscapes and represents geological ages from ancient Cambrian to the human-dominated Anthropocene era we are now believed to be in. We explore the diverse expression of soil in glass and ceramics in terms of shades, textures and viscosity based on origin. Experience the influence of the working process - filtration, mixing ratios and melting points, with support from the Danish Arts Foundation.
